What kind of 'Tater are you?

-Some people never seem motivated to participate, but are just content to watch while others do the work. They are called Speck Taters.
-Some people never do anything to help, but are gifted at finding fault with the way others do the work. They are called Comment Taters.
-Some people are very bossy and like to tell others what to do, but don't want to soil their own hands. They are called Dick Taters.
-Some people are always looking to cause problems. It is too hot or too cold, too sour or too sweet. They are called Agie Taters.
-There are those who say they will help, but just never get around to doing the promised help. They are called Hezzi Taters.
-Some people can put up a front and pretend to be someone they are not. They are called Emma Taters.
-Then there are those who love others and are always prepared to stop, lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others. They are called Sweet Taters.
-The world needs more Sweet Taters.

(Found this newspaper clipping when I was cleaning my room. Thought it was kinda cute.)

Fireside Chats

We had a big bonfire tonite and I got to burn about half of that box of papers that I pulled out from under my bed. There's a strange satisfaction that comes with burning all of that stuff that I worked so hard to get cleaned up. Then it was nice to sit around the fire but now I am the only one left. Since we have wireless, I brought my laptop outside so I could sit around the fire until it died down. Just as I brought it out here, Matt got online. What could be better than talking to your boyfriend while you sit and watch the glowing embers of a dying fire?

Hmm, maybe him being here in person? Bring on July 2nd...! :)

Mark Your Calendars

I'm super excited... Matt just booked a flight to come visit me this summer!! We've been trying to figure out a time that would work around both our busy scheds and we finally figured it out. I get to see my boy July 2-9...woohoo!! The countdown begins...

In other news, I now have a big box of papers to burn that I found while cleaning my room and a big trash bag that's half full of other junk to get rid of. I've also got a pile of clothes to donate to some good cause. I still have stuff that I need to sort thru but I have at least made progress. The garden is also officially planted and most the flowerbeds are under control. We have Evan for the weekend so I'm pretty excited to see him too!

Hidden Treasures

As I continue to sort thru stuff in my room I'm finding all sorts of junk that I wonder why I ever kept it... but I have also found a few little things that took me down memory lane and I'm glad I kept thru all the years. One of the things I found was this little poem that I wrote many years ago. It was with stuff from roughly 6th or 7th grade so I'm guessing that's when I wrote it. Id say it still kinda rings true for me.

The Country

Horses running wild and free
Through the pasture green
The sun shines its golden rays
And not a cloud can be seen

Birds are singing in the trees
And I can feel the gentle breeze
As it blows through my hair
I could sit here all day without a care

I’m glad I live in the country
The city would sure kill me
The country is so much better
With horses running wild and free

Funny Quotes

I was cleaning my room and I found a bunch of funny quotes that I had written down on little bits of paper. I thought I would share the laughs...

"If s'mores were boys, I'd marry all of them" - Whitney Norris

"The closer you get it to God, the more likely it is to work" - Whitney Norris (re: holding up a cell phone to get a better signal)

Me: Are you lactose intolerant?
Nik: No, I'm caf-tose intolerant!

"In the s'more of life, God is the marshmallow: He's the sticky part that holds it all together!" - Brenna

Me: This car has good pick up.
Nik: So do cops.

Home Sweet Home

I'm officially back in the province for awhile now. The rest of the Nova Scotia trip was a blast. We got to see some wonderful scenery and I took a ton of pics (all of which are now on facebook). We made it home yesterday morning and I'm not gonna lie, it was nice to be home and know that I didn't have a wedding or a trip to plan for this week. And we came home to a pleasant surprise: Simba had 6 kittens while we were gone! Their eyes are going to be opening in the next few days and that's when they get really cute. I love kittens in the summertime!

Speaking of summertime, I'm looking forward to a lot of things this summer. I get to see my friends and family, I get to play in the HH slo-pitch tournament again this year, my grandparents are coming to visit, Matt is coming to visit (hopefully), and I get to be a counselor at ARWC for the 20th year anniversary. But I'm also looking forward to some of the small things I love about being home... gardening, playing with my dogs (and now kittens!), going for a bike ride, reading a book in the hammock, etc. Now hopefully I won't get allow myself to get so busy that I don't have time for those small things that I love so much.

On a sadder note, we found out last week that Debbie's cancer has moved into her lungs and liver. They say it's just a matter of weeks, maybe months now. We're taking it day by day but it's pretty tough. I feel so bad for Dale. He's the oldest and feels like he should be able to protect his sister somehow even though he knows he has no control over this. And I feel so bad for her husband Brad. He's been so great through all of this. He took a leave of absence from work and has been home with Debbie and little James who will be 2 in a couple weeks. *sigh* life just isn't fair sometimes...

Back to happier things.. I had a dentist appointment this morning and I made it through another year without any cavities! And we got a bunch of the garden planted and some flowerbeds done too today. Hooray for getting stuff done and being able to be outside to enjoy the fresh air!

An Update on the Craziness That is Nicole's Life

Alright, alright, time to update...

Well after a bit of stress, I finally got my room all packed and cleaned and said my goodbyes and Dallas and I headed towards the 49th. The first day was fairly uneventful and we made it to our intended destination (Sioux City, Iowa). The second day was absolutely ridiculous. It started raining in Sioux City and did not stop (or let up even a little) until Fargo, North Dakota. And the temperature was just right outside that my windshield would fog up if you kept the heater on too long so we were driving along freezing and we even stopped at a gas station to put more clothes on. We almost hit a couch on the interstate (ask me about that story sometime) and once it finally stopped raining, we bucked a headwind all the way across ND. We made it to Minot, ND that nite and decided enough was enough. We declined going all the way to Weyburn, Saskatchewan as planned and just crashed in Minot instead. Once we got to the hotel and relaxed we felt much better. We found out the next morning all the rain had been coming from the edge of a massive storm system that produced a ton of tornados across like 6 or 7 different states! Grrrreeaaatt. Anyways, our 3rd day was nice weather and I'm not gonna lie, we definitely made "really good time" that day if you know what I mean. I just wanted to get home. But all ridiculousness aside, it was a fun trip and we had a lot of laughs! I mean who else can say they almost hit a couch on the interstate while it rained for 5.5 hours straight? lol

Monday Phil came over to plan out the week and get caught up. Tuesday was a couple hours at the spa w/ Phil and Diane (the other bridesmaid). Wednesday was hair and waxing appointments. Thursday was a ton of errands and then Phil's stagette. Friday was packing for my trip and then decorating the church and getting everything ready for Saturday. The wedding was beautiful the next day and then the reception was a ton of fun. Got to talk to some people I haven't talked to for awhile and it was just a lot of fun. (Pics of all this are on facebook!)

Sunday nite we left for Nova Scotia and flew into Halifax early Monday morning. We drove from Halifax up to a friend's brother's place in Pomquet and spent the nite at his house. Then today he took us out lobster fishing! It was one of the coolest things ever! Then we ventured on and we're going to tour around Cape Breton Island. Right now we're in Baddeck (about the middle of the island). We're headed back to Halifax on Friday and spending the weekend there and then flying back on Sunday. This trip is kinda for my birthday so it's been super fun. It was kinda crazy trying to get ready for it and for Phil's wedding in only a week of being home but we made it here and we're having a blast. (Pics of this on facebook as well!)

Anyways, that's all for now, will try to make future blog posts not so far apart :P
